Amanda Brugel

(February 27 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a quiet community located on the part of Montreal called the West Island. The West Island has a lot of diverse communities. People who have never known about it may confuse it with a separate, west-facing island. It is often cited as the location of birth of Amanda Brugel but while that is true, her stay there was not long. Brugel was raised in Courtice close to Oshawa Ontario. She initially wanted to be an actor, however, after a rapid growth spurt her partners weren't able to dance with her. A Toronto Star article revealed she's 6 feet 1 inch tall and has heels. When I surpassed the size of my male companion and stopped dancing, I quit. Many ex-dancers switch to acting. In Brugel's case it was because of the advice by her drama instructor at high school that led her in the direction she needed. The teacher suggested she try to get a role for school's annual play. She was the teacher who suggested that she go after a role in the school's annual production. When she was awarded the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she enrolled in York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. Over the past 20 years since Brugel has been offered roles in over 60 shows on small and big screens drawing the most interest when she was offered the role as Rita in the award-winning television series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was only seen on a few occasions in the first season of the show The Handmaid's Tale. She was the only Canadian participant.
